Dear Families,
As most of you are aware, Australia is facing one of the most catastrophic wildfires in history. The fires have burned over 4.9 hectares of land in New South Wales. Since September, ecologists have estimated that over 800 million animals have been affected. Due to the fires, many of the animals have lost their habitats, experienced food shortages, have been severely burned, and have sadly lost their lives.
As a community we know how strong we can be and the impact we can have. Together we can make a small difference in Australia starting with our school community. We value every one of our students and have always taught them to be the change they wish to see in the world. This is a great opportunity for students to think beyond themselves, beyond our community, and beyond our country in order to make a difference.
Beginning this week until January 27th the Patricia A. Duran School will be collecting “Koala Dollas” (1$ bills). The donations will be combined on the 27th and will be donated to WIRES Australia Wildlife.
Thank you for your generosity and helping us make a difference in the lives of the animals of Australia. Together we are the change.
